Ferndale-based vegan eatery GreenSpace Cafe is expanding its weekly hours and adding lunch service. The restaurant owned by local cardiologist and plant-based, heart-healthy diet guru Dr. Joel Kahn is slated to launched its new lunch menu on July 19. The offerings are expected to include soups like tomatillo gazpacho and masoor dahl, as well as salads, vegan nut cheese boards, farro lentil burgers, and bowls prepared with a choice of quinoa, vegetables, or noodles. The menu will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in addition to the DROUGHT bar that opens daily in the mornings with cold-pressed juice.

GreenSpace debuted in December along Nine Mile in Ferndale, filling the space left by Just 4 Us and Marias Front Room. The restaurant is part of a growing cohort of metro area restaurants catering to vegans and vegetarians such as Detroit Vegan Soul (soon to expand to Grandmont Rosedale) and Katoi, which opened with a menu that was about 50 percent vegetarian-friendly dishes.
