Why Portland? €œWeve been told its the most vegan friendly city in the US,€ said Veganz spokeswoman Michele Hengst.

The plan was set for 2016 but was postponed until 2017. In May 2016, Veganz plans to open headquarters in Portland for wholesale distribution of their products.

Veganz currently has supermarkets in nine locations in Germany and Czech Republic.

Bredack, who became a vegan in 2009, said that the idea to launch his first supermarket came after trips to Scandinavia, the US and Russia.

€œThe decision to open a vegan supermarket came from a potpourri of ideas after coming across various vegan products in the US and Russia,€ he said, adding that as a vegan he found it hard to €œshop normally€.
